The entire stretch of coastline from Panama City Beach all the way to Pensacola is great, in my opinion. Sugar white sand and some of the prettiest salt water you will find anywhere. The color of the water along there is a bright turquoise similar to the Caribbean...so beautiful :).
For Mothers' Day this year, my family surprised me with a little day trip to Destin. It was lunch time when we got to town, so we went straight to one of our favorite restaurants...Pompano Joe's. Their seafood is always really good, the portions are enormous, and the view is awesome. The entire restaurant is open air, you dine sitting beside an open window with the sea breeze keeping you cool as you soak in the scenery. We love the laid back vibe the place has...
After lunch, they took me to Silver Sands for some shopping. I got a few very nice gifts from my sweet husband and then we stopped for dessert at a little gelato shop. Two words...salted caramel :).
The next part of the afternoon was spent poking around in various antique shops, simply because my family knows I love to do that :). When I got tired of that, we went over to Bass Pro Shop. That store is so much fun! The kids and I like to walk around and look at all of the mounts and displays, including the huge aquarium. Dan usually goes off his own way to look at whatever it is guys buy in stores like that, tackle and stuff.
All shopped out, we took the scenic drive home via 30A. This road passes through some of the cutest little towns. Watercolor, Seaside (where The Truman Show was filmed), Seagrove, Alys Beach, Rosemary Beach, and many others. These towns are popular tourist destinations and because of this rather busy in the spring/summer months. They are beautiful, though, and worth a visit even if it is a tad crowded.
