a good reminder...

I just love this picture...

It is completely untouched, straight out of my camera (as are 99.9% of my photos)...but to me looks almost like a black and white with a few strokes of intense color in the middle...something I could not replicate if I tried.  It has a magical, almost dreamy look to it...don't you think?

*********

I am not a photographer...or am I?  Hmm...  I enjoy taking pictures, ya'll know that for sure.  I think that alone makes me a "photographer".

Just the other day, a friend of mine was heading out to an event.  She realized she had forgotten her camera and waved it off saying..."I'm no photographer anyway, I'll just use my cell phone"...  Ya'll, that made me sad.  This girl I'm talking about IS a photographer in the sense that she loves taking pictures AND she is really good at it!  I've seen some of her photos and they are beautiful (even the cell phone shots ;)).

Where am I going with this?  Initially I was just going to show you the pretty picture, but then I started to doubt myself.  That got me to thinking about my friend and how I felt when she doubted herself and...here we are.  To all of you (and to my own self), I just want to say...please don't doubt yourselves.  Don't limit yourself by your own negative thoughts or the unkind words of others...

"Only as high as I reach can I grow
Only as far as I seek can I go
Only as deep as I look can I see
Only as much as I dream can I be"
~Karen Ravn

Be yourself...your wonderful, talented self...not the watered down version some people try and make you become...

  1. Wow! Thank you for the reminder... How many times have I said, "I'm not a decorator, I'm not a cook, I'm not a hostess, I'm not a writer or I'm not a photographer" and how many times have I missed the mystery waiting for me there and how many times have others missed what I might have had to share. Great words and so well written. Oh and BTW, your friend may or may not have gone back and gotten her big camera only to discover it was dead as a door nail when she tried to take the first shot. lol

    1. I am right there with you...we can be so hard on ourselves sometimes. This is something about myself that I am going to do my best to change... Thank you for the sweet words and I just have to tell you...you ARE all of those things and SO much more! I am proud of my friend for getting that camera! Next time, tell her to be sure and charge it so she can share some pictures with me ;)!
