Let's go...

I have a metal wall hanging in my room that I use to display a few photos of the kids and special little mementos.  One of the photos on there is from a few years ago when we went to Yellowstone National Park in the early spring.  The roads had just been cleared of snow and in places it was deep.  Really deep.

We rented a cabin at the Old Faithful Snow Lodge and I can remember the feeling of being inside a maze...you know the ones, with the high walls that you can't see over, you just follow the path and hope it leads in the direction you are wanting to go.

It was so cool (no pun intended) to be in Yellowstone that early in the season.  It was basically empty, which just doesn't happen in the summer.  We watched Old Faithful erupt a few different times...and we were the only souls there.  Magical.

Cold, but simply wonderful...

Well, the kids were in my room with me and they noticed the picture of themselves standing on the porch of our cabin in Yellowstone.  The snow was almost to the roof...

We started talking about how much we liked Yellowstone.  We have been there in the spring, when it was snowy and empty.  In the summer, when it was lush and packed full of people.  But never in the fall, when the leaves are changing and the elk are bugling.  I have always wanted to hear an elk bugle...

So, we decided to pack a few bags and go to Yellowstone.  It just so happened to be fall and the weather was forecast to be unseasonably warm for a week or so.  The schools were all back in session, so hopefully it wouldn't be too busy.  And maybe, if we're really lucky, the elk might just be putting on their show...
