The Fourth of July...

Dan didn't have to work that day, so we loaded up the car with fishing poles, camp chairs, a picnic lunch, and a cooler full of drinks.  Destination...didn't matter...

First we drove through the town of White Earth.  An old railroad town that time has seemingly forgotten.  I was curious to see it, simply because I never had...and we thought there might be a fishing pond somewhere back there.

Not finding any kind of water, we kept driving until we came to Stanley, ND.  We had heard of a pretty good little pond there, so that's where we decided to go next.  But first, we needed to stop and get some bait.  The sporting goods store was closed, but they had a worm vending machine outside.  Hahaha!  For real!  We put in quarters and plop!, out dropped a cup full of worms in dirt.  Yes, I am easily amused ;).

On to the lake...

We had it all to ourselves, just the way we like it :)...

It was a warm, sunny day (boy do I miss those...it's -16 right now brrr) and it felt so good just to sit back and watch the kids have fun fishing...

When the kids had their fill of fishing, we ate our picnic then went driving some more.  I love slow days like that.  Dirt roads and pretty scenery...

canola fields are pretty :)

We checked out some oil wells.  The kids wanted to get a closer look...

It was starting to get dark, so we slowly made our way back towards Williston for the fireworks show...

Ya'll, I have only ever seen anything similar in Wyoming (in another oil town).  The folks in Williston, ND, do it up right!  We parked on a hill above town and everywhere, all around, there were bursts of color and light.  Fireworks for miles...

Beautiful <3
