One word: WOW!
We have always before just glimpsed Grand Teton NP in passing, either going or coming from Yellowstone. Never have we gone into the park itself...
...gotten a closer look...
Ya'll, we had been missing out...it's gorgeous! As a bonus, it is way less heavily visited than it's neighbor to the north. Nice :)...
We were racing the sunset as we walked around the lake. Daring to go just a little further, and a little further...
It was that beautiful light shining across the tops of the mountains! It just sucked us right in...
Finally, after some rustling in the bushes scared us back into our senses (grizzly bears are behind every tree, dontcha know...), we turned around to head back towards our cabin. But first, we needed some protection from the bears...
Wouldn't you be scared? Hahaha ;)...
we ain't afraid of no bears ;) |
We made it back safely, but it was a close one ;)...
About the cabin...we had reserved a small cabin at Colter Bay to be near to the lake. I honestly didn't pay close attention to what I was reserving, I mean...you can't go wrong, really. Well, we got there and stopped off at the reservation desk to get checked in. Everything was nice and everyone pleasant...got our key and directions to our cabin...pulled up in front of it and there was a car parked there. People were hustling their things out of the cabin and into their car! Whaaaat?... I double checked the information that I had just been given to make sure I had the right cabin...yep, I did. What in the world??? Long story short, another family had been given the same cabin as us just a little bit before we got there. They supposedly didn't like it because it was set up like a duplex and shared a wall with another unit. So, the office was allowing them to move to a stand alone cabin and there was a big mix-up and we were accidentally given this cabin that they were on their way out of. Um, awkward and a little weird. If they didn't like it, then WHY had they emptied the equivalent of a small trailer load of stuff into it before deciding it wouldn't work? Hmmm... I didn't know what to do, only that I didn't want to stay in this cabin that they had done who knows what in and were running out of as fast as they could. So. We went back up to the reservation desk and asked if there was another cabin available...since strange folks were spilling out of ours and all ;). They were very apologetic about the crazy mix-up and checked their system to see where we could be moved to. As luck (for us) would have it, the strange folks had jumped from one to the other of the last 2 cabins of the same size that we had reserved. What did this mean for us? Free upgrade, that's what :)! We ended up with one of their largest and nicest cabins on the property...
There was an older man down by the cabins that had seen the whole shenanigan go down. When I finally came back with a key for the new cabin he smiled, laughed, and told me that I needed to go to town and buy myself a lottery ticket ;D, hahaha....
